To begin it, open your original document and click on the Head to Review > Compare > Compare. If the option “Compare” is unavailable, it means your document is protected. Now you need to unprotect it. To make it unprotect, go to File > Info > Protect Document and remove the restrictions. When you will compare your document, word will automatically open a new document, the compare documents, revisions of the document will be shown on the left side, compared documents in the center and the original documents will be displayed in the right side column.
You can also hide the source documents by clicking on Compare > Show Source Documents > Hide Source Document. It is one of the easiest way about how to merge multiple word documents into one.
Now you can right click on the revision list and you can place your cursor on the text under each listed revision. Word will automatically update the text in your main document.

There will be an extensive list of options. When you have selected your preferences, click on OK. Now you can further proceed by accepting or rejecting the changes.
Merging the Text of Multiple Different Documents
Open your first document, now you will add all your further files by clicking on Insert > Object > Text from File, and find the document which you want to merge. The text will be inserted where you will place your cursor.
